6 Dec '08 Karen Gilligan leaves Cruachan.

Karen has left Cruachan on good terms for various reasons (message from Karen below). We wish her all the best for the future. She will not be replaced!

Over the last few years we have been moving towards a more extreme sound and style, now that Karen has left we are going to continue with this plan and I will take over full time vocal duties while John Ryan and John O Fathaigh will take on backing vocal roles.

For live concerts we are planning to adapt some of our back catalogue songs to suit this new arrangement. There are obviously some popular songs where this will not work and we plan to take a session female vocalist on tour with us. Karen has confirmed that she will appear as a guest on some tracks on the new album and this is something we are really happy about. We are looking at this as an opportunity to have a new start with Cruachan and we promise that our next release will be the greatest Cruachan album to date. Keith!

Message from Karen:

It is with a heavy heart,  I make the announcement, that I will be leaving Cruachan.
I want to thank you for all your support over the years, and hope that you will continue to support the lads, as they continue on their musical journey. I have thought long and hard about making this decision and the impact it will have, but it is time for me to move on. I want to thank Keith, John Clohessey, John Ryan, Colin, & John Fay and all the past members of Cruachan for all the experiences that I have had. And especially for all the laughs that I will never, ever, forget !!

Slan

Karen

A Note Regarding Our Russian Tour -
Hi, there was some confusion regarding cancelled dates on our Russian tour. The dates that were on our website were given by our Russian promoter, we never heard of any cancellations until the day we arrived in Russia. We were then told that the Archangelsk and Riga shows had to be cancelled and a replacement date was added in Pskov that was a great success. Kaliningrad was not cancelled, we finished our show in Ryasan and went straight to Moscow airport. We arrived there at 4 am, the flight was not until 10:50 am. The flight was delayed, we enquired why and were told that all flights to Kaliningrad were delayed due to snow storms. We waited until 8pm, 16 hours in a tiny airport, before deciding it was hopeless. The flight to Kaliningrad eventually took off 10 hours after our show would have ended, so it was completely not our fault.

regards
Keith Fay

18 May '06 Black Lotus Gone!
I received a phone call from Black Lotus today (18th May) saying they are ending and all bands are being released. As of now, Cruachan are without a label!!!!. We have a fantastic new album ready to be released, we just need a good label to get in touch. All artwork is ready so record labels, please email me at cruachan@ireland.com

regards Keith

14 April '06 Message from John O' Fathaigh regarding cover artwork -

I got a lot of responses from people (mostly ignorant) about how and why did the cover artwork take months to complete..."you must be bad" etc. and why was it not on a computer etc.
Well, the reason it took months is because it was drawn, erased, re-drawn, painted, over-painted, corrected, re-painted with PENCIL, PAINT, SWEAT and TEARS!! By artwork...I mean ARTWORK, created from absolutely nothing but a blank piece of paper. Shit, some famous artists took YEARS for one picture. I don't! and can't use stuff like photoshop so that's why it took so long, photoshop is just manipulating what's already there in one form or another, artwork is bringing something into existence that was never there before ( are all artists Gods???? )
AND, why was it not scanned on computer???.....Well, myself and Keith were looking for a scanner big enough but couldn't find one (A0 or something), the artwork was 50 by 50cm and any printers we were in touch with couldn't handle this size. I'm sure we possibly could've scanned it in sections but none of us have a scanner (I don't even have a computer....I rely on the one in my job) and in the end it was destroyed before we got around to doing anything about it.

Just to finish, the new album is coming on fine. The two trees of Valinor are on either side and the main picture is of the Morrigan with lots of references to death eg, lily's, raven, skull, weapon's etc....it should be fine.
The logo is HAND PAINTED into the picture just in case any doubting thomas's think it was super imposed with whatever gimmicky gadgetry.

31 March '06 New Album Update:

The mastering is now complete for the new album and production will begin soon. In May we are releasing a single from the album - "The Very Wild Rover". As bonus songs on the single you will find "Bloody Sunday Unplugged", "Timmy" and "Brian Boru".
At the moment "The Morrigan's Call" is scheduled for a June release.

Pagan Regards - Keith.

1 March '06 Album finished!!

Hello! Yes we have finished the new album. Jesus Christ the production on "Pagan" was shite wasn't it? Glad to say that this is the best production I have ever been involved with, the sound is top top quality! Many thanks to Gail Liebling for his endurance. The release date has not been sorted, neither has the title but we will work on this asap. Matrin Walkyier was meant to sing on it but had to pull out at the last minute due to personal things at home, I had a chat with him, he feels really bad about it but to be honest he has much more important things to worry about right now. The song he was meant to do is called Diarmuid and Grainne, when I hear it now I actually think I'm glad he couldn't make it, you'll see why. Maybe we will do something in the future. Next project is the Cruachan Scat porn DVD.

10 Jan '06 New Cruachan album!

Hi there, We enter the studio again on 17th January to begin work on 5th studio album. We are returning to Sun Studios in Dublin, where we recorded Tuatha Na Gael, The Middle Kingdom and Folklore. The studio has been hugely upgraded since we were last there. We are also pulling out all the stops and getting a well respected producer flown in from Holland. Jo Peeters aka Gail of God will be doing the production work for us. We will keep you updated.

14 June '05 Cruachan sign with Black Lotus Records.

We are delighted to announce that we have sorted out a fantastic deal with Black Lotus Records. They have agreed to the largest recording budget that Cruachan has ever had and there are many other agreements that have been made to help Cruachan become the greatest force in Folk Metal! This is the beginning of a whole new era with Cruachan!

6 June '05 I am delighted to announce that the Father of Folk Metal, Martin Walkyier, will be doing guest vocals for one track on our next album. I am a huge fan of Martin's since early Sabbat and Skyclad so for me this is a huge honour.

26 May '05 Cruachan leave Karmageddon Media.

As of today Cruachan have parted ways with Karmageddon Media. The split was amicable amongst us both and we have left on very good terms. As a parting act of good will we will do one last release with Karmageddon Media, a re-release of our 1994 "Celtica" demo including some un-released tracks including "Timmy" which we have played at quite a few Cruachan shows. We wish Karmageddon Media our best wishes for the future.

- NEW MEMBER:
Finally we can announce our new band member. His name is John Ryan and he is from Limerick. He will be playing Tin Whistle, Violin, Banjo, bouzouki and eventually keyboard. He has been with us for almost 2 months now, he played the Aran islands gig and more recently at the Bloodstock festival. Here's to some interesting shows with our new hobbitesque member.

- BLOODSTOCK:
Wow, what a great time we had at bloodstock, and here we were thinking we have no fans in England. Although we were on the second stage, we packed the place out, despite Sonata Arctica playing at the same time on the main stage. We met loads of cool people and I embarrassed myself by being quite the fan-boy when I met Martin Walkyier for the first time. We had a small chat about a possible collaboration....watch this space.

Anyway, we played well, a few cock ups but hey, thats Cruachan. The organisers even said we were the best band there, unofficially of course, and they asked us back next year to play the main stage. Not bad for a band that turned up with their instruments and a few dodgy guitar cables compared to the likes of Primal Fear with 2 van loads of equipment.

Thanks Vince and all the Bloodstock crew, we had a ball!!!
/Keith
